Who are we?

Have you ever wondered whether you could trust someone, in the horse world or anywhere else?  It's a good question, and one you're quite entitled to ask, especially when it comes to breed registries.

As with everything, it's the people who make the difference and that's a distinction we like to make. Here's just a small insight into our DNA.

Mission

Our mission includes promotional objectives for the breed as well as promoting the vital integrity, excellence, strong relationships and friendships that unite people with a common goal.

Reality checks

There's a 4 step acid test we apply to the things we say, do and decide for the registry.

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. Is it fair for everyone involved?
  3. Is it beneficial for the breed and everyone involved?
  4. Will it help build better relationships and strong friendships?

If the answer to any of these questions is no, we don't say, do or decide it.

Our people

Sportaloosa International is run out of Australia and New Zealand by Samantha McAuliffe and Petra Davidson.

Samantha and her husband Vince have run Cayuse Appaloosas since the early 1970s.

They've bred, shown, ridden and promoted hundreds of their own spotted horses since that time, importing and promoting a variety of stallions and breeding spotted horses that succeeded in a variety of competitive arenas.

With tens of thousands of hours under their belt, they have more experience with horses, particularly spotted horses, than you'll find anywhere else in the southern hemisphere.

Petra has owned and ridden Appaloosas since the mid 1980s and has been breeding them since 2003.  With mentors like Vince and Samantha, she couldn't go wrong, and she brings a unique mix of marketing, web development and graphic design to the mix.

She's a senior marketing practitioner with tens of thousands of hours experience in providing information to customers.  Her volunteer roles have included web design and management, promotion and graphic design for the NZ Appaloosa Association and she has been the Appaloosa Project's web manager and communications officer since 2006.
